IV Vitamin Therapy

An IV Vitamin Therapy that promotes healing and replenishes energy.

Myers’ Cocktail, an intravenous vitamin nutrient supplement, was formulated more than 30 years ago by John Myers, MD, a Baltimore physician. This potent solution contains a specially balanced combination of vitamin and minerals. It is given intravenously to help the treatment of a range of ailments and increase energy. In the last few years, Alan R. Gaby, MD, president of the American Holistic Medical Association, has modified the ingredients and popularized the protocol.

The standard Myers’ Cocktail consists of magnesium, calcium, vitamin B-5 (dexpanthenol), vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine), vitamin B-12 (hydroxycobalamin), vitamin B complex, and an average of 25 grams of Vitamin C. Two time Nobel Laureate Dr. Linus Pauling was a staunch supporter of Vitamin C for healing a wide variety of health problems. Vitamin C is an important antioxidant that helps the immune system ward off bacterial and viral infections. It also makes certain metabolic processes in work better. Other vitamins or ingredients may be added to the Myers’ Cocktail protocol, depending on the patient’s diagnosis and overall health as well as the condition being treated. Many people who have benefited from this protocol claim that the intravenous shots of vitamin B12 in Myers’ Cocktail are even more beneficial than Vitamin B-12 intramuscular injections in restoring their energy and stamina. Intravenous treatments are more effective than oral therapy for increasing blood levels of nutrients. According to some experts, intravenous delivery may improve the transport nutrients from the blood into the cells.

The standard ingredients in Myers’ Cocktail: Vitamin B complex 100 (B complex), Vitamin C, Magnesium, Vitamin B5 (Dexpanthenol), Calcium (Calcium gluconate), Vitamin B12 (Hydroxocobalamin), Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine hydrochloride).

What is the Duration of Treatment?

Patients vary in the number of treatments needed, but most require infusions 1 to 2 times per week. Some patients experience improvement after only one treatment, and many report significant healing by the fourth infusion. People who have chronic conditions may need ongoing treatment of several IV’s per week, or periodically every few weeks to regain their energy.

How is the Protocol Given?

Dr. Kochan mixes all the ingredients with 200mL sterile water in an IV bag. It is infused slowly over a period of 30 to 45 minutes.

Is It Safe?

Myers’ Cocktail is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive therapy that is well tolerated by most people. It carries a low risk of serious adverse side effects. if the protocol is administered quickly there may be a sensation of warmth and flushing. This is due to the rapid rise of magnesium. Some patients may also have the taste of vitamins in their Patients taking digoxin (Lanoxin®) or potassium-depleting drugs should be cautious and should inform Dr. Kochan that they are using these medications before beginning the Myers’ Cocktail protocol.

Vitamin C: Linus Pauling a noble price winner knew the important role Vitamin C played in the body. Vitamin C is water soluble and is essential in production of collagen and norepinephrine. Collagen is the building block for skin, blood vessels, bones, and ligaments. Norepinephrine is an important neurotransmitter important for brain function and stabilizing mood. Vitamin C also plays an important role in production of energy and metabolism of cholesterol. It is an excellent antioxidant and prevents cancer.

Glutathione: Glutathione is a free radical scavenger. In Parkinson’s Disease or any other neurologic disorder free radicals destroy neurons, so anything that limits free radicals can slow down the disease. Glutathione also increases the sensitivity of brain receptors to dopamine. We have seen eighty to ninety percent improvement in patients with Parkinson’s disease because Glutathione allows the dopamine in the brain to be more effective. Glutathione also increases the sensitivity to serotonin, which may explain why many of our depressed patients have a remarkable improvement in their symptoms. Glutathione is also effective in treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, and Stroke.

MSM: MSM is methylsulfonylmethane which provides sulfur to joints, skin, hair, nails, and cartilage and methyl which is used in biochemical pathways which produce energy. Clinical research has shown MSM is safe and effective in increasing joint comfort and function. It is also anti inflammatory and is excellent in subsiding arthritic pain and inflammation. MSM is taken in smaller amounts as an oral supplement and higher doses intravenously. Sport injury, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Colitis, and Crohn’s disease can benefit greatly from intravenous MSM.

Chelation Therapy: Chelation is an intravenous therapy of vitamins, minerals and EDTA. EDTA is a synthetic protein that is slowly infused intravenously and binds to metal ions in the blood vessels and arteries. Metals are carried to the kidneys and are excreted. It is a highly effective treatment for heavy metal poisoning such as lead and mercury. Heavy metal detoxification has been associated with improvement in cardiovascular disease. Currently a double blinded study called TACT is in progress by National Institute of Health to evaluate the efficacy of Chelation in treatment of Cardiovascular disease. It would be exciting to have more factual information about Chelation and treatment of heart disease. At this time, however, Chelation is used empirically for treatment of vascular problems. It acts as a calcium channel blocker and lowers blood pressure and improves circulation dramatically. Patients with peripheral vascular disease (poor circulation in the extremities) have claimed to have less pain in the effected limbs after receiving Chelation Intravenously. Patients with Angina (chest pain) have also claimed to have less symptoms and improvement in their quality of life. It is important to keep in mind that until further studies are performed conventional therapy is necessary in some cases and not every individual is a candidate for Chelation therapy.

Meyer’s Cocktail: Myer’s is intravenous nutrient cocktail therapy which contains magnesium, calcium, B12, B5, B-Complex, and Vitamin C. Patients with asthma, migraine, fatigue, fibromyalgia, depression, anxiety, narcotic withdrawal, allergies, and rash have responded greatly to Myers cocktail.

Vitality Drip: Vitality drip is a multivitamin and trace mineral combination which is used to increase energy, health, and vitality. Patients feel vibrant, joyful, and energized after receiving the Vitality drip.

Vision Drip: Taurine and other minerals are used intravenously to improve vision. Progression of macular degeneration can be prevented with the Vision drip. Magnesium Drip: Magnesium and other minerals are used for the treatment of hypertension, anxiety, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue. It is also used for cardiac arrhythmias such as Atrial Fibrillation and Tachycardia.
